Most Popular and Largest Amusement Nicco Park (Kolkata)

Nicco Park, one of the most popular and largest amusement parks in the east, covers an area of around 40 acres. The park holds the rare honor of being the first amusement park in the world to be certified with SA 8000 (Social Accountability) certification, the first in Asia to be certified with ISO 14001 (Environment Management System) and the first amusement park in India to be certified with ISO 9001 (Quality Management System).

Nicco Park opened to the general public in the year 1991. Nicco Park boasts of as many as 33 rides. The rides at the park include Water Chute, Twist and Turn, Family Carousel, Cyclone- the Roller Coaster, Flying Saucer, Paddle Boat, Magic Carpet, Food Park, Giant Waterfall and beach Cafe among several others. Nicco Park offers two kinds of packages to the visitors: The Dry Park Package (250 Indian Rupees) and the Composite Park Package (350 Indian Rupees).

            

The visitors can enjoy any number of rides as many times as they want under the former but only in dry park while the latter gives accessibility to both dry and water park (Wet-O-Wild). However, both these packages exclude the entry fee which is to be paid separately and which only gives access to six special rides in the park. One can also avail year long admittance to the park by purchasing one of the fun tickets. These are priced at 750 Indian Rupees, 1500 Indian Rupees and 2000 Indian Rupees and each of them offer different facilities to the visitors.

Nicco Park in Kolkata is located at Jheel Meel in Sector IV of Salt Lake City which is sited in the north-eastern outskirts of the city of Kolkata in West Bengal. Nicco Park, one of the very famous and largest amusement parks in the east, covers an area of around 40 acres. Nicco Park is the first amusement park in the world to be certified with an ISO 9002 certification from a well known European Certifying Authority.

Nicco Park started its operation from 1991 and since till date it has been amusing people of all ages. For kids Nicco Park in Kolkata is a Disneyland. Generally Nicco Park attracts crowds on weekends and holidays from the suburbs of Kolkata. Some of the very well known rides that you must try at Nicco Park are Cable Car, Water Coaster, Flying Saucer, Cyclone, Water Chute, River cave, etc. Recently a water park named "Wet-O-Wild" has been opened up within Nicco park but the charges for both are different.

                     

Nicco Park in Kolkata is a perfect picnic spot as it is surrounded by greenery. It has a very beautiful rose garden which is an added attraction along with the fun rides. Nicco Park also consists of an in-house Food Park that offers you some lip smacking Indian, Continental and Chinese cuisines. Apart from this, Nicco Park have several small stalls run by the reputed restaurants of the city.

Nicco Park is not only one of the best but also one of the most reasonably priced amusement parks in India. From the entry ticket to the rates of the restaurants, everything is available at reasonable prices. The best thing about the park however is that this amusement park doesn't charge sky high prices like other amusement parks at the weekends, which is when most of the people prefer visiting Nicco Park.

Rai Parveen Mahal Orcha

The Rai Praveen Mahal was built by Prince Indrajeet Singh in the town of Orchha in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The prince built it in the year 1618 in memory of Rai Praveen, his beloved courtesan, who performed in his palace, and whose fame and beauty led to her being fetched by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. The prince was too weak hearted to disobey the mighty Mughal, and instead ended up building the monument. The courtesan however, is said to have rejected the emperor’s advances and came back to the prince.

Rai Praveen Mahal is three storied, with the central hall in one of the stories depicting multiple paintings showing the various moods of Rai Praveen. The second story contains several Nriya mudras of Indian classical dances, which are worth seeing. The palace has been combined with a garden, known as Anand Mahal Bagh, which is divided into two parts. Rai Praveen was accomplished in poetry, dancing and horse riding, with the renowned poet Keshavdas having compiled Kavipriya that praises her qualities. Rai Praveen was also popularly known as the nightingale of Orchha.





Best time to visit

The best time to visit Rai Praveen Mahal, and the town of Orchha is between the months of October and March, when the weather is cool.

Beyond the boundaries of the fort, one can see several small temples, as well as the river Betwa.

Rai Praveen Mahal remains open daily from 9:00 am till 5:00 pm.
